Terms and Conditions

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

TUTORING LESSONS

  1. All lessons are delivered by myself.

  2. Each lesson will be one hour in length unless otherwise agreed.

INDIVIDUAL TUITION PLAN

  1. Every child has a unique set of strengths and areas for development. I create an individual tuition plan tailored to your child as a result of my initial assessment, parental input and other information such as school progress reports.

SCHEDULING

  1. Lessons are scheduled to take place at a specific time and day each week at the agreed location during term time. Please bear in mind that if you arrive late to a lesson I won’t be able to make up the time, and the lesson will finish as if you had been on time. This is to make sure that I can still honour the commitments I have for that day as a tutor and as a parent. I do understand that on occasion events happen beyond our control and am usually lenient a few times. In return, I will endeavour to always be on time.

  2. Regular lessons are important if your child is to make progress with me. I would appreciate as much notice as possible if your child is unable to attend a lesson, for instance, due to sickness or school commitments. All missed lessons must be ‘made up’ within 3 weeks of the lesson that is being missed - this can be in the 3 weeks before the missed lesson or the 3 weeks after the missed lesson. There will be no refund of the missed lesson fee and it will be your responsibility to book a ‘make up’ lesson.

  3. In the event that I am unable to tutor a lesson I will contact you as soon as I know, and schedule a mutually convenient time to ‘make up’ the lesson, which will also be within 3 weeks of the normal lesson time (either before or after).

  4. I require 14 days written notice if you intend to withdraw your child from my tutoring services. All fees are payable for lessons until the end of the 14 day notice period. Your notice must be made in writing by email, royal mail post or hand delivery with acknowledgement by email. Verbal notification by telephone is not acceptable.

  5. Extra sessions can be booked on an ad hoc basis if the need is required.

HOMEWORK

  1. There is a strong connection between regularly completing homework and higher accomplishments. In addition, it develops core skills in young children that will serve them throughout school and working life. The homework I give is age appropriate and based on what has been covered in the lesson in order that your child consolidates what they have learnt in a session with me (younger children quickly forget!). It also acts as feedback on how well they have grasped the skills taught and I can therefore personalise the pace of their learning. Each family has different circumstances and we will agree a homework plan.

  2. In order to maximise the time spent teaching in a lesson I suggest that, if possible, parents mark maths and reasoning homework (where applicable) and I mark English homework. To ensure this can be done in a timely manner please send the English homework to me either by WhatsApp (07462051906) or by email (paul@paulwilkinson.org) at least 24 hours before the lesson is scheduled to take place.

REPORTING & COMMUNICATION

  1. Feedback to and from parents is an essential part of the process in order to work in partnership with parents. I give verbal feedback on each lesson at the end of the session and allow up to 10 minutes for this. This feedback includes what I covered in the lesson, improvement points and homework tasks. If you ever want additional information or have questions at another time then I am available Tuesday to Friday during normal business hours by email (paul@paulwilkinson.org), WhatsApp (+447462051906) or telephone (+447462051906).

TUITION FEES

  1. Lesson fees are based on a 60-minute session and dependent on the location of the lesson as follows:

From my home classroom the fee is £60.

Online the fee is £60.

From your home the fee starts at £80 and is dependent on the distance from SW17 0TT.

  1. Payment for sessions is to be made in half-termly blocks and the payment for each block is due at least 24 hours before the first lesson of each block. If payment hasn’t been received by this time then the lessons will not take place.

PAYMENT METHODS

  1. Payment is to be made by bank transfer.

CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

  1. An administration fee of £50 is payable to engage me as a tutor for your child. The registration fee is not refundable or transferrable to other students or family members.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"We looked for a tutor to coach our son in the last 2 months leading up to his 7+ exams. Paul was able to achieve a significant uplift in performance within a short timeframe to ensure our son passed his exam at UCS. We found a key strength of Paul, no doubt partly stemming from his considerable front line teaching experience, was his ability to accurately assess the right starting level and then build up slowly from that to really ingrain renewed confidence in our son. He hence went into the exams both more confident and more concentrated, which had not always been the case with earlier pre-tests. We are hence more than happy to recommend him to others."

Edward, parent of 7+ candidate - January 2022.

"Paul is everything I was seeking when I was looking for a tutor for my son, who is going to sit the 7+. We only have 5 weeks to prepare and I am confident that Paul is doing everything he can to achieve our goals. He arrives prepared with worksheets, and focusses on that week's weak points. My son is improving weekly in his creative writing and Maths. He is realistic and honest about our progress and he responds to my queries promptly. He provides detailed feedback and homework for us after each session. I feel that we are working together to support my son and this is definitely money well spent. PS: My son is well behaved around Paul which shows his firm yet kind approach. Thank you."

Dawn, parent of 7+ candidate - September 2022.

"Paul has been a fantastic tutor for my son. The tutoring sessions have been varied and interesting. Paul tailored learning to my son's interests to engage him in creative writing and to maintain his concentration and focus.  Paul took the time to provide materials to support my son's learning at home and to provide detailed feedback following the sessions."

Naomi, parent of 7+ candidate - November 2022

"Paul is an absolutely brilliant tutor and I cannot recommend him enough. My son was a quiet child who was going from a state school education to a private school and so we wanted him to be prepared for the exams. From the moment they started working together, Paul was able to get the best out of him with a soft yet disciplined manner which resulted in my child getting into his first choice secondary school.

Paul taught him for two years, throughout the pandemic and beyond and was always a patient, calm and reassuring teacher who clearly wants the absolute best for his students.

My son is doing really well at his new school and often gets extra credit on his Maths and English work which I believe is still down to the wonderful education he received from Paul."

Danielle, parent of 10+ candidate - November 2022.

"Paul was a fantastic tutor and my 8 year old son enjoyed his lessons weekly. Even before the start of our sessions, Paul asked lots of questions to establish the key areas to focus on. Based on this he devised a teaching plan and informed us of the progress our son should be expected to make. Paul's manner is calm and reassuring. He is an extremely patient tutor who gives encouragement to his pupil through the session. He always arrived on time. I would recommend Paul to any parent."

Parent of 9+ candidate - June 2023

"Paul started with us as a tutor to provide maths and English lessons for my daughter and a friend on a teacher strike day. We subsequently needed a tutor on a regular basis and thought of Paul, who could accommodate us in his schedule. We have been very pleased with the support he has given to my daughter and she enjoys her lessons with him."

Sharon, parent of 11+ candidate - April 2024

"Paul is a very responsible, patient and professional teacher, who is passionate about teaching and cultivating students' interest in learning which motivates them to explore and develop writing skills. During every session, clear guidance and useful learning materials were provided to help children build their fundamental knowledge and skills to properly prepare for writing paragraphs step by step. Homework provided helped to enhance what students learnt in the class such as paragraph structure, wording and grammar, etc. Communication with us, as parents, was always comprehensive and effective. His teaching method is also tailored to meet the requirements of each student's strengths and weaknesses. The group writing session was helpful because it enabled interactions among students in a positive learning atmosphere."

Lily, parent of 7+ candidate - April 2025.

"Paul Wilkinson has been an exceptional tutor to my 7 year old son. Thanks to Paul’s guidance, dedication, and expertise, my son successfully passed the entrance exams for both Dulwich College and St Paul’s — a remarkable achievement that speaks volumes about the quality of tuition he received. As a qualified teacher, Paul brings not only a strong academic background but also a deep understanding of how young minds learn and thrive. From the very beginning, his approach was structured, thoughtful, and completely tailored to my son’s needs and personality. Lessons were always engaging, clear, and purposeful — striking the perfect balance between challenge and encouragement. What truly set Paul apart was his unwavering professionalism and reliability. Sessions were always punctual and well-prepared, plus communication with us as parents was frequent and very constructive. It truly felt like a valuable partnership as we worked together toward a shared goal, and his insight, honesty, and support were invaluable throughout. I would recommend Paul without hesitation to any parent looking for high quality academic support. He has a proven and strong track record, a calm and inspiring teaching style, and an exceptional ability to connect with children — both academically and emotionally. I am so grateful for the role Paul has played in our son’s early academic journey, and we know our son will carry the benefits of Paul's teaching with him for years to come."
